AL-I’TISAM CODE OF CONDUCT

Those working for Al-I’tisam are a mix of a full time staff and volunteers working closely together to support the various activities carried out by Al-I’tisam anywhere in the world. The main target groups generally are the needy, war refugees, internally displaced people due to internal conflicts and the people affected by disasters like earthquake, flood, typhoon and so on.

All the fund needed to carry out our activities are raised through crowdfunding in Malaysia as well as in other parts of the world. Due to the widespread conflicts springing everywhere and disasters that could be due climate change occurring much more frequently now, our fund to carry our activities are always in short supply. Therefore, donations are very much welcome and deeply appreciated.

In order to be more efficient in our contribution, Al-I’tisam have prepared a Code of Conduct to assist everyone involved to understand their roles and its limitation while undertaking certain task on behalf of Al-I’tisam, as follows;

The code of conduct will continue to be reviewed and revised from time to time to ensure it remained relevant, help us to be more efficient, better managed and better understood by every stakeholder including the people that we help, the volunteers, the supporters and the group of people that is very important to us; our donor

  • No-one, whether our staff or volunteers are above the law or exempted from the bye-laws. Therefore, it is the responsibility of everyone to respect the bye-laws, rules, regulations and the laws of the land.
  • Al-I’tisam roles are to offer humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable and wherever it is needed without prejudice by religion, politics, class or ethnicity.
  • Al-I’tisam should not be an instrument to any party in implementing our activities and will always be consistent with our policy of impartiality. However, we shall always extend our hand to cooperate will all parties, but solely for the purpose of delivering our humanitarian assistance and we should not be viewed or being interpreted as favouring certain party or group.
  • We must maintain ourselves to be strictly neutral from any party in conflict and we shall never allow ourselves (the organisation, the staff and volunteers) knowingly or unknowingly to be used to gather information by the parties in conflict.
  • We shall always as far as possible conduct a feasibility study and get the view or input from the locals to correctly ascertain the needs and priorities of the target group. The study will guide us to find the best route and method for the delivery of the humanitarian assistance. It will also help us to secure the cooperation of local partners because local knowledge will ensure an efficient and effective delivery can be made and the aid can be properly channelled to reach the target group.
  • We shall never impose our opinion, culture or custom on the communities we are trying to help. To change the community for the better will only be successful and have a long term effect if the idea is supported and shared by the community themselves and they are involved in the implementation on every step from the beginning to the end.
  • In every humanitarian aid we implement, our objective is to alleviate the suffering of the target group and to reduce their vulnerabilities for the occurrence of the same problems or disasters again.
  • We have to be and be seen as a responsible NGO, individually and as a group, to our donor and to the target group. We will act transparently and accountably in all our activities. Therefore, we have to recognise the need to report all our activities, not only on the financial aspect and the achievement but also on the effectiveness and the impact it has on the target group. As a responsible NGO we must manage our project with a high standard of professionalism and the best expertise we can gather. We must apply the best monitoring method for the implementation of our projects and to compare our achievement against our plan and to recommend for amendment or corrective measures to improve our delivery whenever necessary. We must strive to see each and every project meet its target and objectives.
