CORONA VIRUS: HUNGER AND UNCERTAINTY IN DELHI
As of 26 August 2020, the national capital state of Delhi recorded more than 1.6 million Corona Virus cases, with more than 4,347 fatalities.
Needless to say, the coronavirus lockdown has made survival difficult for people of New Delhi. The state government provided grains to 7.2 million people or 40 percent of its population of some 20 million. However, that is not enough as millions of vulnerable families who are not on the Public
Distribution System (a food ration scheme) registries will be left out. Delhi’s ration registry on the other hand, like in most other states, is based on the 2011 census. The population has grown and certainly leaves a large number of urban poor and migrants out from this government’s aid.
